Race 1 – Ken Reid Memorial Trophy 1 Handicap - 1008 metres:
The explanation given by trainer Nicole Dickson for the late arrival oncourse by Jacky Boy was accepted.
Letellego was slightly slow to begin.
Passing the 100m Michellby Zodiac was hampered when tightened for room by Jacky Boy, which when weakening, was taken in by Little Judgy Ann (Craig Kirkpatrick) which shifted in when attempting a run to the inside of Strange Light. C Kirkpatrick was severely reprimanded for attempting a run when there was insufficient room.
Reddy For Kerry became awkward negotiating the home turn.
Passing the 200m Dani Walker, rider of Michellby Zodiac, accidently dropped her whip.
A post-race veterinary examination of Jacky Boy, which performed below expectations, revealed minor abrasions to both hind legs and off-side hip.
Race 2 – ‘Blue Bob’Open Trophy Handicap - 1008 metres:
Acting on a report from Racing Victoria’s Compliance and Assurance Team that in the lead up to today’s race Brass Razoo had not been stabled at the premises at which trainer Karen Strong is licensed to train, Stewards issued a severe reprimand to K Strong under the provisions of LR.27A. In determining penalty Stewards took into account K Strong’s record both under this Rule and overall as a trainer.
Bach was slow to begin.
When questioned regarding his tactics in the early stages of the race, Clayton Douglas rider of Bach, stated to the Stewards that the gelding, which had the blinkers on again today in an attempt to settle, was reluctant to stride forward in the early stages. Stewards noted C Douglas’ comments and reminded him to ensure that he doesn’t permit his mounts to get too far out of their ground in future.
Approaching the winning post Bach was hampered when Man Of Joy shifted out.
Race 3 – Shur-Line Maiden Handicap - 1008 metres:
Perfect Sandy hung out throughout.
Bunyip Ridge was slow to begin.
Rhonda Mangan (Perfect Sandy) was reprimanded for permitting her mount to shift in in the straight, resulting in Diesel Tan being tightened for room over the concluding stages.
Race 4 – Irwin Tools Open Trophy Handicap - 1708 metres:
King Can Sing raced wide in the middle stages.
Race 5 – Lenox Tools Trophy 2 Handicap - 1608 metres:
Rhonda Mangan, rider of Ominous Sign, was questioned in regards to allowing her mount to get too far out of it’s ground in the early and middle stages. R Mangan stated that her instructions were to go forward if the situation allows itself, however to position Ominous Sign where it felt comfortable. R Mangan reported that the gelding didn’t feel comfortable in the early stages of the race and due to Ominous Sign dipping on several occasions, was reluctant to place Ominous Force under too much pressure. Stewards noted R Mangan’s comments, however informed her that in future she would be expected to use initiative and position her mounts closer to the field than she did on this occasion.
Race 6 – Van Steensel Timbers Pty Ltd Open Hcp - 1508 metres:
Acting on a confirmed telephone call from trainer Robbie Laing that Sanleani was lame, Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the mare at 12:30pm. R Laing will submit a veterinary certificate to Racing Victoria in regards to this matter.
Des Douch was reprimanded for the late declaration of a rider for Primo Lago. In determining penalty Stewards took into account D Douch’s unblemished record as a trainer.
Toro began awkwardly.
Leaving the straight on the first occasion Toro had to be eased across the heels of Diego De La Vega (Dani Walker) which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. D Walker stated to the Stewards that Diego De La Vega had shifted in away from Gold Red which was racing to her outside and had had difficulty straightening her mount. Stewards took into account the circumstances involved, however severely reprimanded D Walker and advised her to exercise more care when in similar circumstances in future.
As a result of this incident Low Deposit was hampered and forced wide.
A post-race veterinary examination of Gold Red, which performed poorly, revealed a heart arrhythmia. Trainer Paul Worthington was advised to provide the satisfactory results of an ECG, performed after a 1000m gallop, prior to the gelding racing again.
