No action was taken against any trainer for the late declaration of riders.
Race 1 – PHILLIP LOBLEY WINES MAIDEN HANDICAP - 1600 metres: Secret Journey over raced in the early stages.
Near the 150 metres Christies when laying in shifted in abruptly resulting in War Cries being hampered. Christies continued to lay in to the winning post.
Race 2 – GEOFF BAYLISS TROPHY RACE(2) HANDICAP - 1600 metres: Powerconi knuckled on jumping.
Trafalgar Bay jumped away awkwardly.
Near the 1300 metres when the pass slackened Trafalgar Bay had to be eased off the heels of Charli’s Phantom.
Trafalgar Bay lay in under pressure near the 200 metres.
Race 3 – K & G LABELS MAIDEN HANDICAP - 1200 metres: Acting on a confirmed telephone call from R Lont trainer of Trick Ricky, who stated that the gelding had taken skin off it’s off hind leg when being loaded onto the float and was therefore unfit to race, stewards authorised the late scratching of Tricky Ricky at 11.45am. R Lont was notified that he must produce a veterinary certificate for Tricky Ricky in regard to the matter.
Acting on a confirmed telephone call from B Pallot trainer of Twilight King who stated that after being caught in traffic he would not arrive on course in time, stewards authorised the late scratching of Twilight King at 2.30pm.
Slim King underwent a pre race veterinary examination as the gelding was having its first start since 12 December 2005. Slim King was passed fit to race.
Intelligent Blonde was slow to begin.
Near the 1000 metres Intelligent Blonde had to be eased off the heels when over racing.
W Hurst rider of Intelligent Blonde, when questioned regarding her tactics on the mare, stated that she was instructed to go forward from the 750 metres. She further added that she elected to improve earlier than anticipated due to her mount over racing and raced wider on the track, rounding the home turn and in the straight, in an effort to find the better going. Stewards noted her explanation.
A Bodey rider of Raised On Dust stated the mare may have performed below expectation due to having several starts in the last couple of weeks. A post race veterinary examination of Raised On Dust, which performed below market expectation, revealed no abnormalities.
Race 4 – R G CARTER MEMORIAL TROPHY RACE(3) HANDICAP - 1200 metres: Gap Express jumped away awkwardly and shifted out bumping Jack’s Palace out onto Bowling Along.
S Waddell rider of Gap Express stated that near the 1000 metres the gelding became unbalanced and did not feel comfortable in its action. A post race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had been galloped on. R Bell trainer of Gap Express was notified that he must produce a veterinary certificate of fitness for the gelding prior to it racing again.
R Douglas rider of New Land was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for using the whip on seven occasions, two more than permitted.
Race 5 – CHARMAN PARTNERS YEA CUP - 2100 metres: Sugar Daad was slow to begin.
Super Shag threw its head up shortly after the start.
Beach D’Or had a tendency to over race in the middle stages.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Too Much Sun, J Fitzgerald the gelding’s rider stated that he was disappointed in the way Too Much Sun finished off its race and that the gelding may not have appreciated today’s track condition.
Race 6 – CERTIVIED VALUATIONS OPEN TROPHY HANDICAP - 1200 metres: Storm Flyer which had been restless in the stripping sheds and knocked it near side hip underwent a veterinary examination and was passed fit to race.
Vixenite was slow to begin.
J Fitzgerald rider of Cardamos was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for using the whip on nine occasions, four more than permitted. Stewards took into account that this was the first time J Fitzgerald had offended under this rule.
Near the 400 metres Uncle Ben which was improving, shifted out and clipped the heels of Affair Of Honour which was commencing to weaken. As stewards deemed this incident to be accidental no action was taken, other than to notify S Waddell rider of Uncle Ben to exercise greater care when in similar circumstances.
B Howden trainer of Affair Of Honour reported to the stewards that the gelding had minor cuts to both its hind legs.
