Riding Changes / Jockey Information

Other Comments / Explanations:

Ben Wade, who failed to ride at Balnarring on Tuesday 26 January, was examined by the Club’s doctor and passed fit to ride.

Race 1 – Elmers café Of Yea Maiden Handicap - 1200 metres:

Intelligent Blonde was slow to begin.

Delta Dane raced wide without cover in the middle stages.

Sound Instinct was eased out of the race upon straightening. An examination by the Club’s veterinary surgeon revealed Sound Instinct to be suffering shin-soreness.

Race 2 – Nic Morris Trophy Race (2) Handicap - 1200 metres:

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow stewards to view the patrol film, so as to ascertain whether Smokin’ Arch had gained an unfair advantage at the start. Stewards were satisfied with the start and correct weight was declared.

Illegal Entry was checked off the heels of Smokin’ Arch when over-racing, approaching the 1000m.

Race 3 – Adam Catlin Maiden Handicap - 1600 metres:

Ella Quest got it’s head up when over-racing in the middle stages.

Oh Forain raced wide without cover throughout.

Allegro Ben had to be eased off the heels of Ulae when attempting a tight run between that mare and Just For Laughs, near the 600m.

Just For Laughs and Allegro Ben raced tight and came together over the concluding stages.

Race 4 – Gaffney’s Bakery Trophy Race (3) Handicap - 1600 metres:

Ms. S Waddell, rider of 2 placegetter Sigvaldi, viewed the steward’s patrol film before lodging a protest against Leica Bundy (C Kirkpatrick) being declared the winner, on the grounds of alleged interference in the early part of the straight. It was established that Leica Bundy had a tendency to lay in under pressure, prior to being corrected by it's rider C Kirkpatrick. Sigvaldi then raced in restricted room for a short distance when Fenaughty Lad shifted out slightly. As stewards were not reasonably satisfied that the interference suffered to Sigvaldi in the early part of the straight was wholly attributable to Leica Bundy, the protest was dismissed.
At a subsequent inquiry stewards took no action other than to remind C Kirkpatrick to exercise more care when in similar circumstances in future.

Race 5 – Staging Connections Open Trophy - 1200 metres:

Prince Rhubarb raced wide without cover throughout.

Approaching the 400m Rosecoloredglasses had to ease off the heels of Our Pretender when that gelding weakened.

A post-race veterinary examination of Stratton Place, who pulled up quickly after the race revealed the gelding showing soreness over the hindquarters. Stewards notified trainer P Stucheon that Stratton Place would need to trial to the satisfaction of the stewards prior to racing again.

Race 6 – Revegetation Victoria “Sister Olive” Open Trophy - 3300 metres:

Acting on a confirmed phone call from Kim Kinsman, trainer of Jet Torque, who failed to scratch the gelding by the prescribed time, stewards ordered the withdrawal of Jet Torque at 8:17am. After taking evidence from Ms. Kinsman  and taking into consideration the circumstances, stewards severely reprimanded Ms. Kinsman for failing to scratch Jet Torque in accordance with the Rules.

On jumping away Super Shag shifted in and hampered Cowdrey.

Bustling raced wide without cover in the middle stages.

Rounding the home turn, when attempting a tight run to the inside of Wonderfulcolours, Super Shag had to be eased when that gelding shifted in slightly.

A post-race veterinary examination of Bustling revealed the gelding to be lame in the near-fore. Trainer’s representative Mr. J Ryan was advised that Bustling would require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to racing again.
