Race 1– THE ANDERSON BUCKSTOP TROPHY RACE(1) - 1000 metres: S Eden trainer of My Summer Rose was fined $50 for the late declaration of rider for the mare.
After viewing the video, S Sutherland rider of My Summer Rose (3 placegetter) and A Boyd rider of Forbidden (4 placegetter) lodged an objection against High Kinglana (P Kelly) second placegetter on alleged interference over the final 50 metres. On the evidence Stewards could not be satisfied that the interference suffered to both runners justified the placings being changed and therefore both protests were dismissed.
At a subsequent inquiry, P Kelly rider of High Kinglana was found guilty of the charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that over the final 50 metres he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Forbidden (A Boyd) resulting in that mare having to be checked and My Summer Rose which was racing to the inside of Forbidden being severely hampered. P Kelly had his license to ride in races suspended for a period to commence on midnight the 14 February and to expire on midnight the 20 March (7 Picnic meetings). Stewards deemed this to be in the high range and took into account this P Kelly’s good careless riding record.
High Kinglana raced wide throughout without cover.
Rounding the home turn Klever Kitty which was weakening, commenced to give ground, resulting in Showgirl Express which was following having to be checked off its heels and shortly after this Le Premier shifted out slightly making contact with Showgirl Express as a result Le Premier became unbalanced.
Race 2– DANIEL RIGG’S FINAL FURLONG OPEN TROPHY RACE - 1000 metres: T Buck rider of King Shadowfax was dislodged en route to the barriers and was examined by the clubs doctor and passed fit to ride.
Sir Hussonet jumped away awkwardly then was bumped by True Vision which shifted in jumping.
A Bodey rider of Sir Hussonet explained that near the 800 metres the gelding jumped a section on the track and lost ground. He further added that Sir Hussonet had a tendency to lay in over the concluding stages.
When questioned regarding the performance of True Vision, R Douglas rider of the gelding stated that at its last start at Balnarring on the 26 January 2010 True Vision raced in a handy position over the 1200 metre distance. He added that in today’s event over 1000 metres the gelding was out paced in the early stages and therefore raced further back than what he would have liked. R Douglas further added that he rode the gelding along in the middle stages however it was only in the straight where True Vision made up ground. A post race veterinary examination of True Vision revealed no abnormalities.
T Buck rider of King Shadowfax (3 placegetter) was notified he must ride his mount out to the finishing post at all times.
Race 3– MARK LAURITZ “I’VE BEEN EVERYWHERE” MAIDEN HANDICAP - 1000 metres: The start of the race was slightly delayed as Immerse had to be resaddled behind the gates.
Snippets Wings was slow to begin.
Kimondo shifted in on jumping and hampered Tuscan View.
Tuscan Heart jumped awkwardly.
Rissy Roo hung out in the early stages.
Immerse had a tendency to layed in during the straight.
Race 4– TS CONSTRUCTIONS PTY LTD OPEN TROPHY RACE - 2300 metres: Stewards accepted the explanation given by R Lont trainer of Wonderfulcolours for the use of the club colours.
Prior to correct weight A Boyd rider of Cowdrey and the gelding’s trainer R Stephens viewed the photo finish and agreed with the judge’s decision. Correct weight was subsequently declared.
Cowdrey was slow to begin (3 lengths), then was allowed to stride forward and obtain the lead near the 1900 metres.
Race 5– COLDON HOMES WOOLAMAI CUP - 1700 metres: Near the 1200 metres Questrian had to be eased off the heels of Sheza Ranga which shifted in. Shortly after this Questrian was allowed to stride forward and obtain the lead.
A post race veterinary examination of Sheza Ranga, which performed below market expectation, revealed no abnormalities.
A Boyd rider of Just Kurrupt was fined $100 under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(i) & (ii) in that he used the whip on 15 occasions in a forehand manner all of which were in consecutive strides.
Race 6– PHILLIP ISLAND RSL CLUB TROPHY RACE(2) - 1500 metres: Black Eyed Knight was presented in the mounting yard with blinkers which is not part of the geldings approved racing gear. On assurance for S Eden the gelding’s trainer that he had applied for blinkers through the Trainers Service Centre earlier that week, Stewards allowed Black Eyed Knight to race with blinkers. Stewards will follow up this matter with the Trainer Service Centre.
Correct weight was delayed so P Koumis (4 placegetter) rider of Eye The Tiger and A Bodey (2 placegetter) rider of Black Eyed Knight could view the Stewards film in a view of lodging an objection. After viewing the film both riders did not wish to proceed with an objection.
Eye The Tiger was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and early part of straight. Shortly after this Eye The Tiger had to be eased when disappointed for a run between Black Eyed Knight which shifted out when bumping the running rail and Trojan Of Troy which shifted in when laying in.
P Koumis stated that after being disappointed of a run shortly after straightening, the gelding faltered and for this reason he did not ride the gelding out over the concluding stages. Stewards notified P Koumis that he shall try and ride his mount out to the finishing post at all times.
When questioned regarding the poor performance of Fast Realm, B Akers the geldings trainer stated that on returning to scale he had noticed that the gelding had sprung it’s near fore plate and it was slightly twisted. A post race veterinary examination of Fast Realm revealed the gelding to have an elevated heart rate and a loose near fore plate. Stewards notified B Akers that prior to Fast Realm racing again the gelding will have to perform competitively in a trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards.
