Race 1 – Kilcunda Pub & Bistro Trophy (2) - 2000 metres:
Stewards upgraded the track to Good 3 at 11:25am.
Bowling Along stood flat-footed and lost 2 lengths.
Approaching the 400m on the first occasion Rocum Reba was permitted to stride to the lead by its rider, A Bodey, after over-racing in the early stages.
A post-race veterinary examination of Fast Realm revealed no abnormality.
Race 2 – “Blue Bob Stakes” Open Trophy - 1700 metres:
The start of this race was delayed slightly to allow for the removal of a tent that had blown onto the race track near the 300m.
Race 3 – The Royal Mail Hotel Open Trophy - 1500 metres:
Correct weight was delayed to allow stewards to view the patrol film of the start to determine whether Benacus, who had reared as the gates opened, was denied a fair start. After taking evidence from rider Sarah Sutherland, trainer Ross McDonald, starter Wayne Churchill and barrier attendant Adrian Matthews as well as relying on their own observations, stewards believe that Benacus reared slightly of its own accord as the start was affected without external influence and therefore Benacus was declared a runner and correct weight declared.
Approaching the winning post Better Than One was tightened for room and lost ground between Lunar Mist, which was laying out, and Benacus which shifted in slightly while attempting to obtain clear running when racing tight on the inside of Black Eyed Knight which also shifted in slightly at this stage. Taking into account all circumstances the stewards did not believe that any one rider was fully responsible for this interference, however reminded all riders to exercise care in similar circumstances in future.
Race 4 – “Disco Hallam’s” Maiden Handicap - 1000 metres:
Shortly after the start Mib began awkwardly and shifted out, taking Paris Angle out onto Snippets Wings’ hindquarters and turning that gelding back in onto Paris Angle, causing that horse to be hampered and lose ground.
Approaching the 750m Abbachic shifted in slightly when over-racing and brushed El Ganador.
Race 5 – Brian Bren – VBA/CRV Picnic Racing Sprinters Series Heat 4 - 1000 metres:
Kadena Lane, who was slow to begin, raced wide without cover for the majority of the race.
Race 6 – Bass Coast Refrigeration & Air COnditioning Trophy (1) - 1000 metres:
Shortly after leaving the mounting yard My Summer Rose, who was reluctant to proceed to the barriers, spun around and dislodged its rider Adam Bodey. After being remounted and then led by the clerk of course My Summer Rose again dislodged its rider. To avoid a further delay to the start of the race stewards ordered the late withdrawal of My Summer Rose at 4:26pm and the following alterations to betting: All successful bets prior to 4:26pm are subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket; Win bets 19c, Place bets 25c, Concession Bets 24c, Doubles bets 26c. Mr. Shea Eden, trainer of My Summer Rose, notified the stewards that it was his opinion that the mare would now be retired, however stewards did notify Mr. Eden that a warning would be placed on My Summer Rose and prior to her racing again My Summer Rose would need to trial to the satisfaction of the stewards.
Thirtysixattwelve was slow to begin.
