Race 1 – HOPE YOU HAD A MERRY XMAS TROPHY RACE (1) - 1000 metres:
The start of the race was delayed several minutes due to a member of the public requiring medical attention from the on-course ambulance staff.
High Kinglana was slow to begin racing (2 lengths).
Ainsleigh’s Girl hung out during the early and middle stages of the race.
Approaching the 100 metres, High Kinglana had to change course to obtain a clear run.
John Fitzgerald rider of Ivor Strategy (4 placegetter) was reminded of his obligations under the rules with respect to riding his mount out the end of the race.
A post-race veterinary examination of Ainsleigh’s Girl, which performed poorly, revealed no abnormalities.
Race 2 – ‘HAPPY 40 NICOLE MAY’ MAIDEN HANDICAP - 1000 metres:
The start of this race was rescheduled to start at 2.00pm.
On jumping away Ulae was hampered when tightened for room between Chicalosa and My Summer Rose, which both shifted ground.
A post-race veterinary examination of Miss Cooney Cooney (3 placegetter) revealed the mare to be a ‘roarer’.
Race 3 – HAPPY NEW YEAR OPEN TROPHY RACE - 1000 metres:
Vixenite reared when the gates open and lost ground (2 lengths).
Salsa Club was obliged to race wide throughout the early and middle stages. Near the 400m Distraction was hampered and had to be eased when tightened for room between Salsa Club and Vixenite (Paul Koumis) which shifted out. Paul Koumis was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift out at that stage and reminded to exercise care when shifting ground in future.
Race 4 – WOOLAMAI OPEN TROPHY RACE - 2000 metres: Approaching the 1600m Irish Village when overracing had to be eased to avoid the heels of Saint Johan.
Near the 1200m Peta Tait rider of Irish Village elected to restrain her mount to the rear of the field before shifting out to obtain running to the outside of Wonderfulcolours. Peta Tait then allowed Irish Village too stride forward and take up the leading position.
Anthony Boyd, rider of Wonderfulcolours was reprimanded under the provisions of AR.137A(5)(i) for using his whip in consecutive strides on one more occasion than is permitted prior to the 100m. Anthony Boyd was also reminded of his obligations under the rules with respect to unnecessary use of the whip on a beaten horse.
Adam Bodey, rider of Irish Gun was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR.137A(5)(ii) for using his whip in a forehand manner on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than is permitted.
Race 5 – PHILLIP ISLAND & SAN REMO ADVERTISER TROPHY RACE (1) - 1500 metres: Diaddison jumped away awkwardly. In the early stages of the race Diaddison got its head up and raced ungenerously for some distance, as a result Diaddison obliged to race wide without cover for the majority of the race. Over the concluding stages Jacob Londregan rider of Diaddison was unable to ride his mount out in his normal manner as the gelding was reluctant to race truly and layed in under pressure.
A post race veterinary examination of Carlton Game which performed below expectations revealed no abnormality.
Race 6 – WONTHAGGI CITIZENS BAND OPEN TROPHY RACE - 1600 metres:
Brief Eruption which was having its first start today since the 1 December 2007 was examined by the club’s veterinarian on arrival at the course and passed fit to run. Dame Melba had a tendency to lay in rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight.
Brief Eruption (Adam Bodey) was obliged to change course near the 100mto obtain clear running.
