Race 1 – Woolamai Winners Trophy Race (1) - 1000 metres: Our River Rose shifted out on jumping away and lost ground.
The track was upgraded from Dead 4 to Good 3 at 1.25pm retrospective to the running of race one.
Race 2 – The December open trophy race - 1000 metres: Near the 900m Kanya Hammer had to be eased to avoid the heels of Sovereign Toy which shifted out slightly.
Race 3 – isle of wight hotel maiden handicap - 1000 metres: Coldstream Hill which was kicked by another runner leaving the mounting yard was returned to the mounting yard, examined by the clubs veterinarian and passed fit to start.
Thirtysixattwelve which was unruly and refused to leave the mounting yard was withdrawn from the event by order of stewards at 2.25pm. Subsequently the stewards' ordered the following deductions to betting. All monies bet for a win and/place and concession betting on Thirtysixattwelve to be refunded. All successful bets on the horses prior to the time of withdrawal of Thirtysixattweleve were subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket: Win bets 5 cents, place bets 6 cents, winning concession bets 7 cents and double bets 6cents. All monies bet after the stewards' declaration of withdrawal to be paid at face value of the ticket.
Mr Bruce Akers, trainer of Thirtysixattwelve was notified that the gelding was now suspended from racing until such time as Thirtysixattwelve trials to the satisfaction of the stewards.
El Ganador and Vixenite come together on jumping away.
Ben Wade rider of Opal Flash explained to the stewards that near the 600m he looked down at his horse on a number of occasions as he believed that his saddle may have shifted forward.
Race 4 – tompsett towers open trophy race - 1600 metres: Like Thunder was slow to begin.
Race 5 – wonthaggi holden & toyota Christmas special trophy race (1) - 1500 metres: Prior to the running of this race the Stewards and riders representative Mr Malcolm Pay undertook an inspection of a section of track near the 600m. The Stewards and Mr Pay were satisfied that the track was safe to continue racing and the meeting proceeded.
Valmarina jumped away awkwardly.
Approaching the 1000m Decklon when laying out had to be eased to avoid the heels of High Czarmonty which shifted in (Patrick Kelly). Patrick Kelly was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of Decklon and advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
Decklon hung out for the majority of the event.
Dame Melba had a tendency to lay in under pressure in the straight.
Race 6 – continental hotel maiden handicap - 1500 metres: Beenadancer which was unruly in the mounting yard was examined by the clubs veterinary surgeon on arrival at the barriers and passed fit to run.
Cool Change and Isle Of Elba jumped away awkwardly.
Beenadancer raced ungenerously in the early stages.
Approaching the 1200m Indyking which failed to negotiate the turn shifted out and brushed the hindquarters of Ponter. Beenadancer which was following had to be eased.
Near the 1100metres Isle Of Elba got its head up and shifted out.
Approaching the 200 metres Bowling Along when obtaining a narrow run between Oh Forain and Ponter was taken in slightly by Oh Forain which in turn was taken in by Cool Change which shifted in. As a consequence Bowling Along then shifted in and took Ponter in onto Grande Soeur resulting in Grande Soeur having to be checked. As no one rider was held responsible for the interference Stewards took no direct action other than to issue Michael Schrapel with a reprimand for not straightening his mount sooner.
Anthony Boyd rider of Indyking reported to the stewards that shortly after straightening the saddle on his mount shifted forward and as a consequence he eased the gelding out of the race.
