All explanations for late rider declarations for today’s meeting were accepted.
All riders were alcohol breath tested prior to riding.
An enquiry was adjourned into the reason for B Wade not arriving on course to fulfil his riding engagements.
Race 1 – quinton & barbara scott racing stables maiden handicap - 1000 metres: As no other riders were available, R Douglas was given permission to ride Alpamayo 1kg over its declared weight.
Candy Rain and Cougar Son were slow to begin.
Sebastians Tart was held up rounding the home turn until shifting out near the 200 metres to obtain clear running.
A post race veterinary examination of Comma, which performed below market expectation, revealed the mare to have a cut to its near fore leg.
R Douglas rider of Alpamayo was fined the sum of $100 under the provisions of AR.145 for returning to scale in excess of 1kg over his declared riding weight.
Race 2 – quinn civil trophy race(2) - 1400 metres: Acting on a confirmed telephone call from Ms J. Mawer, trainer of Coriolis Force, who stated that the mare has a temperature and therefore unfit to race, Stewards authorised the late withdrawal of Coriolis Force at 9.26am. Ms J. Mawer will be notified that she must provide a veterinary certificate for Coriolis Force to the Stewards.
As no other riders were available, R Douglas was given permission to ride Rokoroo 1kg over its declared weight.
Dramastic jumped away awkwardly.
Near the 900 metres Ainsleigh’s Girl which was racing ungenerously began to hang out badly, shifted in and hampered Rocem Reba. Ainsleigh’s Girl which then continued to hang out was eased out of the event on entering the straight by its rider. A post race veterinary examination of Ainsleight’s Girl revealed no abnormalities. Mr R. Stephens trainer of Ainsleigh’s Girl was notified that the mare must trial in front of the Stewards prior to racing again.
Subsequent to the running of this race, the track was downgraded to a slow 6 at 2.36pm.
Race 3 – trevor lineham open sprint - 1000 metres: Acting on a confirmed telephone call from Mr D. Bailey, trainer of Jet Flyer, who stated that he had omitted to scratch the mare prior to the scratching time of 7.30am. Stewards withdrew Jet Flyer at 8.46am. Mr D. Bailey was reminded of his obligation to scratch before 7.30am deadline.
As no other riders were available, R Douglas was given permission to ride Yield of Ranchez 1kg over its declared weight.
R Douglas rider of Yield of Ranchez was fined the sum of $100 under the provisions of AR.145 for returning to scale in excess of 1kg over his declared riding weight.
Race 4 – the david bourke open trophy race - 1300 metres: Regal And Adamant was caught wide in the early stages before being allowed to stride forward near the 800 metres to obtain the lead.
Rounding the home turn Blue Vein had to be eased off the heels of Sovereign Toy (D Waymouth), which shifted out to obtain a clear run to the outside of Nadobe. D Waymouth was notified to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
A post race veterinary examination of Blue Vein, which performed below market expectations, revealed no abnormalities.
P Koumis rider of Regal And Adamant was reprimanded under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for using the whip on seven occasions prior to the 100 metres, two more times than permissible.
Race 5 – g. & K. o’connor pakenham picnic cup - 1750 metres: Ms S. Trolove trainer of Shagstar, stated to the Stewards that she believed she had scratched the gelding from race 5 on the 31 December via her online account. As Shagstar was also accepted in race 6, Stewards withdrew Shagstar from race 5 at 9.02am. Ms S. Trolove was reminded of her obligation to scratch before 7.30am deadline.
As no other riders were available, A Bodey was given permission to ride Like Thunder 1kg over its declared weight.
Kermit and Cowdrey were both slow to begin.
T Buck rider of Kermit was fined the sum of $100 under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for using the whip on ten occasion prior to the 100 metres, five more times than permissible. Stewards took into account that this was T Buck’s second offense in this area.
Race 6 – worlds best hoof oil trophy race(3) - 1750 metres: Irish Village jumped awkwardly.
P Tait rider of Irish Village was reprimanded under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for using the whip on seven occasions prior to the 100 metres, two more times than permissible.
