The start of this race was delayed slightly to allow the course doctor to arrive.

Mumzapony raced wide throughout.

Anthony Boyd, rider of Mumzapony, who was kicked by that horse when dismounting in the mounting yard, was examined by the course doctor and cleared to ride.

Acting on a confirmed telephone call from Gary Hollier, trainer of Star Dust Magic who had been accepted in two races and had planned to scratch from this race when he arrived on course, stewards ordered the late scratching of Star Dust Magic at 9:20am. G Hollier was reminded it was his responsibility to be aware of his obligations in regards to the Rules of Racing, in this case the official scratching time of 7:30am.

A Boyd, who was injured after the running of race 1 was re-examined by the course doctor prior to the running of this race and declared unfit to ride. A Boyd was informed that he must produce a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to racing again.

Teryshnikov began awkwardly

Rounding the turn out of the straight Teryshnikov laid out.

Craig Kirkpatrick, rider of Teryshnikov who , stated to the stewards that his instructions from the connections prior to the race were to lead on the gelding, however Teryshnikov had a tendency to over-race early and leaving the straight on the first occasion Teryshnikov raced more keenly than he would have liked. C Kirkpatrick further added that Teryshnikov was a beaten horse when put under pressure near the 600m and he advised the trainer that the gelding may benefit from a change of gear.
A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
