Did not attend meeting: J Fitzgerald B Wade Other Comments / Explanations: Inquiries were adjourned into the reasons for J Fitzgerald and B Wade failing to attend today’s racemeeting. Race 1 – Thoroughbred Breeders Victoria Maiden Handicap - 1200 metres: Acting on veterinary advice that Briefs had injured itself in the float in transit to the races suffering lacerations and was unfit to start, Stewards ordered the withdrawal of Briefs at 12:10pm. Peerybingle raced wide in the early stages. In the straight Peerybingle raced greenly. C Kirkpatrick, rider of Leica Bundy, stated to the Stewards that the gelding travelled well in the early and middle stages of the race, but then failed to respond to his riding in the straight. C Kirkpatrick further stated that Leica Bundy raced one paced and would appreciate races over further ground. Race 2 – Robin Hood Hotel Trophy 1 Handicap - 1200 metres: B Akers, trainer of Three At Ten who was reluctant to leave the mounting yard was informed that a warning would be placed on the gelding regarding it’s manners and further incidents may lead to further action being taken. Three At Ten refused to jump when the gates opened and consequently lost considerable ground (50 lengths). B Akers explained to the Stewards that be believed the blinkers worn by the gelding contributed to it’s performance today and as such he would remove them prior to it’s next race start. Stewards noted this explanation however informed B Akers that Three At Ten would now have to pass a barrier certificate test, under Steward’s supervision, prior to racing again. As no other rider was available at the handicapped weight of 63kg, Steward’s permitted T Buck to replace J Fitzgerald as the rider of Prince St Clemens, 1kg overweight. A Boyd, rider of Narnoo, was obliged to stop riding and straighten his mount when it layed in under pressure in the straight. Race 4 – Cutting Edge Electrical Drouin Cup - 1775 metres: Approaching the 1200m Questrian made the turn awkwardly, shifted out and then had to be checked off the heels of Jack’s Palace (P Kelly) which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. P Kelly was severely reprimanded and told to exercise more care in future. Near the 500m Questrian (T Buck) shifted out to obtain a run to the outside of Jack’s Palace, which was weakening, and hampered Kermit. T Buck was notified to exercise more care. A post-race veterinary examination of Questrian, who performed below market expectations, failed to reveal any apparent abnormality. Stewards inquired into an incident in the jockey’s room subsequent to the running of this race between riders K Harris and T Buck. After taking evidence from both riders Stewards reprimanded K Harris and T Buck for their actions. Race 5 – Drouin Picnic Race Club committee Maiden Handicap - 1600 metres: Beenadancer knuckled on jumping away. Beenadancer and Isle Of Elba raced ungenerously in the early stages when being restrained. Race 6 – Royal Hotel Trophy 2 Handicap - 1600 metres: Bowling Along knuckled on jumping away. Rounding the home turn Galaway Glow shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so took Shagster wider on the track. Bowling Along raced tight to the inside of Reddy For Kerry approaching the winning post.
