Race 1 – The Royal Mail Hotel Heat 5 VBA/CRV Picnic Racing Sprinters Series - 1000 metres:
Near the 100m Megaton, which had a tendency to lay in, had to ease off the heels of Golden Mistress.
Race 2 – Bass Coast Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Maiden Hcp - 1000 metres:
Purple Zar was re-saddled behind the barriers, prior to the running of this event.
Flight’s Amada was slow to begin.
Approaching the 150m Flight’s Armada , which was laying in, shifted in when being ridden along by it’s rider Ms. D Walker, taking Sassanicki (Mr. M Fitzgerald) inwards. Shortly after this incident Flight’s Armada, which continued to lay in, shifted in and took Purple Zar in onto Sassanicki causing Mr. M Fitzgerald to take hold of his mount. After taking into account the circumstances regarding these incidents Stewards severely reprimanded Ms. D Walker and notified her that she must make every possible effort to stop riding and straighten her mounts when in similar situations in future.
Race 3 – Paul Langford-Jones Bux Day Derby Open Trophy – 1000 metres:
After being informed by Mr. S Eden that Sunday Slippers had injured itself while being loaded onto the float and was unfit to start, Stewards ordered the withdrawal of that mare at 1:54pm. Mr. S Eden will submit a veterinary certificate in regards to this scratching.
After being loaded into the barriers Seto Sapphire broke through the front gates and galloped the majority of the course before being captured by the Clerk of the Course and returned to the mounting yard. During this incident Freddflyntstone which was in the adjoining barrier stall reared over and became cast. Acting on veterinary advice both Seto Sapphire and Freddflyntstone were scratched from this event at 3:05pm. The Stewards ordered in relation to betting with bookmakers the following betting deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket – Win bets 30 cents, Place bets 27 cents, Winning concession bets 30 cents, Double bets 30 cents and Quinella bets 60 cents. All monies bet after the Stewards declaratoin of withdrawal to be paid at the face value of ticket.

A post race veterinary examination of Freddflyntstone revealed abrasions to the near hind leg. Mr G Gascoyne, trainer of that gelding, was notified that he will need to forweard to the Stewards a veterinarrevealed abrasions to the near hind leg. Mr G Gascoyne, trainer of that gelding, was notified that he will need to forward to the Stewards a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to Freddflyntstone racing again.
Race 4 – Killy Pub & Bistro Open Trophy - 1500 metres:
Acting on a confirmed telephone call from Mr. R Lont, trainer of Leica Reason, Stewards ordered the late withdrawal of Leica Reason at 9:40am. In reminding Mr Lont of his obligations in regards to scratching horses in accordance with the Rules of Racing, Stewards took into account the circumstances involved.
In the straight Champion Chestnut layed in and proved difficult to ride out to the line.
Race 5 – Blue Bob Stakes Trophy 2 Race - 1500 metres:
Fenaughty Lad reared upon jumping away and lost ground.
Shortly after the start Fenaughty Lad had to be eased to avoid the heels of Kwun Tong Lad (Ms S Sutherland) which shifted in when not clear. Ms S Sutherland was severely Fenaughty Lad had to be eased to avoid the heels of Kwun Tong Lad (Ms S Sutherland) which shifted in when not clear. Ms S Sutherland was severely reprimanded and notified that she must exercise far more care when shifting gound in future.
Approaching the 1200m Port Phillip, which had a tendency to over-race, had to be eased off the heels of Sheeza Mess when the pace slackened.
Approaching the 700m Midnight Dream had to be severely checked when tightened for room by Fenaughty Lad (Mr. C Kirkpatrick) which shifted in abruptly when hanging in. Mr C Kirkpatrick was reprimanded and notified that he must make every effort to keep his mounts straight when in similiar circumstances in future. Sheeza Mess, which was following Midnight Dream, had to checked to avoid that mare’s heels.
Mr. C Kirkpatrick, rider of Fenaughty Lad, accidently dropped his whip near the 400m.
Race 6 – Van Steensel Timbers Open Trophy - 1700 metres:
After passing the 400m Kingston Classic had to be eased when tightened for room between Dis Reply (Mr. J Fitzgerald) which shifted in, and Blue Dress, which was taken out by Ancient Faeroe (Mr. K Harris) which after being held up for clear running, then shifted out from behind the heels of Tidal Spirit when that gelding was weakening. After taking evidence from all parties Stewards issued Mr. K Harris with a reprimand for shifting out when not sufficently clear.
