Other Comments / Explanations: Licensed trainer Rodney Wallace was reminded of his obligation under the rules to declare his riders by the prescribed time.
Race 1 – Cremin Frank Facey First National Maiden Handicap - 1000 metres: Monde Miss, Tea M’Lady and Zardoz were all slow to begin.
Waldo Flyer had a tendency to lay out rounding the home turn.
Debbie Waymouth rider of Waldo Flyer (3 placegetter), was reminded of her obligation to ride all her mounts out hands and heels to the end of the race.
Race 2 – Quinn Civil Restricted Trophy Race (2) Handicap - 1400 metres: When the gates opened Port Phillip reared and lost considerable ground.
Spanish Ruler was slow to begin.
In the early stages of the race Sir Dee got its head up when over-racing.
When questioned regarding the poor performance of Spanish Ruler, Shane McGovern rider of the gelding stated to the stewards that after being slow to begin the gelding travelled well to the 800m and then when put under pressure failed to respond to his riding. A subsequent veterinary examination of Spanish Ruler revealed the gelding to have an elevated heart rate.
Race 3 – Trevor Lineham Open Sprint trophy race handicap - 1000 metres: Turning Yallah was marginally slow to begin.
Peta Tait rider of Turning Yallah stated to the stewards that the gelding failed to stretch out in today’s track conditions.
Race 4 – david bourke open trophy race handicap - 1300 metres: Like Thunder was marginally slow to begin.
Approaching the first turn Like Thunder got its head up when over-racing.
Near the 100m Scarface Claw had to change course to avoid the heels of Divine Providence which shifted out.
Race 5 – G. & k. o’connor pakenham picnic cup - 1750 metres: Fort Custom and Blackbook were slow to begin.
Near the 1600m when making ground had to be eased to avoid the heels of Purge (Shane McGovern) which shifted in slightly. Shane McGovern was notified to exercise far greater care when shifting ground in future.
Near the 1200m Cowdrey (James Cameron) when being eased to avoid the heels of Teppista shifted out abruptly and bumped Just Kurrupt resulting in Just Kurrupt becoming unbalanced. James Cameron was notified to exercise more care when in similar circumstances in future.
When questioned regarding the poor performance of Blackbook, rider Leigh Taylor explained to the stewards that when put under pressure near the 800m the gelding failed to respond to his riding. He further added that he believed the gelding had gone amiss approaching the home turn and therefore eased his mount down in the straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
Race 6 – cardinia shire council restricted trophy race (3) handicap - 1750 metres: Approaching the winning post on the first occasion Oh Forain when over-racing had to be eased to avoid the heels of Order Of Victory (Raymond Douglas) which shifted in. Raymond Douglas was notified to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
Near the 1000m Oh Forain when over-racing had to be checked to avoid the heels of Order Of Victory.
Raymond Douglas rider of Order Of Victory was issued with a severe reprimand for weighing in 1kg over his declared riding weight.
