Race 1 – The Harold Dale Memorial Trophy (1) Hcp – 1750 metres: Prior to correct weight M Fitzgerald, rider of second placegetter Burramine Legend, viewed both the Steward’s patrol film and the judge’s photo of the finish, before deciding not to lodge an objection.
In the home straight Burramine Legend (M Fitzgerald) had a tendency to lay in.
Near the 100m, Burramine Legend and Dirty Sweet brushed, due to both horses shifting ground. Over the concluding stages Dirty Legend then raced tight to the inside of Burramine Legend. M Fitzgerald was reminded of his obligations to keep his mounts straight in similar circumstances in future.
Stewards reprimanded A Bodey, winner (Dirty Sweet) for raising his forearm towards M Fitzgerald, second placegetter (Burramine Legend) after passing the winning post when still crowded for room on the inside of that gelding.
Race 2 – Tonga Station Bring On The Rain Maiden - 1750 metres: Near the 700m Northeast Card became unbalanced, shifted out and bumped Grey Nomad, which in turn caused that gelding to become unbalanced.
Northeast Card, which performed poorly, was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon who could find no abnormalities.
Stewards notified Mr T Bell, trainer of Northeast Card, that the horse would not be permitted to race again until it trials to Stewards’ satisfaction. Mr T Bell advised the Stewards that he would recommend to the owners to now retire the gelding.
Ms C Whitehead was severely reprimanded for excessive use of the whip on Northeast Card, in the straight.
Race 3 – Thank You Maurie Walsh Maiden - 1100 metres: The reason for R Douglas being replaced on Deep Thinking in this race was accepted by the Stewards.
Gambling was slow to begin.
Race 4 – Mansfield Courier Open Trophy - 1100 metres: J Fitzgerald (The Lion King) was severely reprimanded for weighing in 1 kg over his declared weight
Race 5 – Marks Supa IGA Mansfield Picnic Cup - 1200 metres: Approaching the 50m Cousins Triumph was tightened for room between Parchie and Scarface Claw, due to both horses shifting ground.
Race 6 – Credit Suisse Trophy (2) Hcp - 1200 metres:The Tickle Spider threw its head on jumping away and lost ground.
