Other Comments / Explanations: Acting on a report from the HEALESVILLE AMATEUR RACING CLUB INC. that they had received 45mls of rain overnight an early morning track inspectotion was carreid out by the Stewards. The track was found suitable for racing.
Race 1 – THE MARKET U MAIDEN HANDICAP - 1650 metres: Marquez (NZ) (Kane Harris) was slow to begin. During the early and middle stages of the race Akando (Graig Kirkpatrick) raced wide without cover. Approaching the 250m mark Flywheel (John Fitzgerald) rolled in onto Bunchen (Shane McGovern) hampering that horse. Stewards severely reprimanded John Fitzgerald for allowing his mount Flywheel to shift in when not clear of Bunchen. Shane McGovern, rider of Bunchen, was notified of his obligations when using the whip on a beaten horse.
Stewards down-graded the track to a Slow 6 at 1.50pm as persistent rain had been falling since 12.15pm
Race 2 – CUSTOMERS ATM TROPHY RACE (3) HANDICAP - 1650 metres: As there was no other suitable rider available Stewards granted permission to Anthony Boyd to ride King of Dendy 3kgs above its declared weight. Connections were advised of the situation and were happy for King of Dendy to take its place in the field with the over-weight. Approaching and passing the Winning Post the first time The Lion King (John Fitzgerald) accidentally clipped the heels of The Last Gyr (Geoff Drunsdon) due to the pace slowing slightly and the Lion King over-racing at this point. During the middle stages of the race Tidal Spirit (Shane Mc Govern) over raced. Passing the 100m mark Kenbest (Jacob Londregan) shifted in under pressure and brushed Better Than One (Adam Body). Michael Fitzgerald, rider of Burramine Legend, was severly reprimanded for his unnecesary use of the whip on the gelding over the concluding stages of the race.
A routine swab sample was taken from the winner Kenbest.
Race 3 – EASTERN TREE SERVICES OPEN TROPHY RACE HANDICAP - 1650 metres: Kingston Classic (Anthony Boyd) was obliged to race wide throughout the race. Purge (Adam Bodey) performed below expectations. Stewards were advised by Adam Bodey that the gelding did not handle today's track conditions.
Track was downgraded to a Heavy 8 at 3.10pm.
Race 4 – DENSAL TROPHY RACE (1) HANDICAP - 1200 metres: Stewards ordered the withdrawl of Our Japerl (Craig Kirkpatrick) after the mare refused to go to the barriers at 3.40pm.
All monies bet for a win and/or place and concession betting on Our Japerl to be refunded. All successful bets prior to the time of the withdrawl of Our Japerl are subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket: WIN bets 6 cents; PLACE bets 7 cents; WINNING CONCESSION bets 6 cents; DOUBLE BETS 6 cents; QUINELLA bets 12 cents.
Pemmtar (Geoff Brunsdon) raced wide for the majority of the race. Gunnagetit (LeighTaylor) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Ish ( Shane McGovern) was held up and unable to gain a clear run on the entrance to the straight.
Stewards advised trainer of Our Japerl, Mr Paul Rudd, that the mare must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards at an official organised trial prior to racing again.
A routine swab sample was taken from Gunnagetit, the winner of the race.
Race 5 – RED LABELS OPEN TROPHY RACE HANDICAP - 1200 metres: Stewards, acting on veterinary advice, ordered the withdrawl of Deep Rule (Michael Fitzgerald) after the gelding became fractious and caught up in the barrier stalls at 4.25pm.
All monies bet for a win and/or place and concession betting on Deep Rule to be refunded. All successful bets prior to the time of the withdrawl of Deep Rule are subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket: WIN bets 7 cents; PLACE bets 8 cents; WINNING CONCESSION bets 7 cents; DOUBLE BETS 7 cents; QUINELLA bets 16 cents.
Mr Geoff Brunsdon, rider of Here Comes Minna, pleased guilty to a charge of careless riding AR 137(a). It was established that passing the 1100m Mr Geoff Brunsdon permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of Energised (Ms Clare Whitehead) causing that gelding to be checked and taken in off its course and severely tightening Dancing Dragon (Adam Bodey), Orchard Glory (Craig Kirkpatrick) and Sigvaldi (Kane Harris) to her inside. Stewards withdrew Mr Geoff Brunsdon's permit to ride in picnic races for a period of 3 meetings commencing midnight 13th December, 2008 and ending midnight 31st December, 2008. In arriving at this penalty Stewards took into account Mr Brunsdon's excellent riding record and his guilty plea.
Acting on a report from the Starter, Mr C Mallyon, and taking evidence from rider Michael Fitzpatrick, Stewards advised Mr Rodney Hammond, trainer of Deep Rule, was notified that due to its behaviour in the barriers the gelding must obtain a barrier certificate prior to racing again..
Race 6 – STEVENS GLASS TROPHY RACE (2) HANDICAP - 1000 metres: Dis Reply (Leigh Taylor) was slow to begin. Gold Power (Shane McGovern) jumped away awkwardly. Prior to correct weight being declared, Leigh Taylor, ridder of Dis Reply, wished to view the Steward's patrol film of the start of the race. After viewing the film, Stewards were satisfied that the horse had gained a fair start. Correct weight was declared. John Fitzpatrick, the rider of the winner, Set It Up, was fined the sum of $50 AR. 137(c) for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post.
