Race 1 – BENNY GILBERT’S LAST STAND TROPHY RACE (2) HANDICAP - 1600 metres: Approaching the 350 metres, Jack’s Palace dipped.
K Harris rider of Ensay, 2nd placegetter was notified and reminded of his obligation under the rules regarding his use of the whip over the concluding stages.
Race 2 – ZEALOT FILMS OPEN TROPHY RACE - 1600 metres: Prior to correct weight Mrs D Clover trainer of Rapid Thrill wished to view the photo finish print for first placing. After viewing the print, Mrs Clover agreed with the judged placings and correct weight was notified.
Kara Anderson rider of Great Reason stated to the Stewards that from the 600m point the gelding failed to respond to her riding. A routine veterinary inspection of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Dani Walker rider of Rapid Thrill, 2nd placegetter stated to Stewards that the mare hung out from the 1000 metres until the winning post. Mrs D Clover trainer of Rapid Thrill was notified by the Stewards that prior to racing again the mare must trail to the satisfaction of Stewards.
Race 3 – ROSS LAURENSON 50TH OPEN TROPHY RACE - 1050 metres: Prior to correct weight Sarah Sutherland rider of Retta, 3rd placegetter wished to view the patrol video in the straight. After viewing the video, Sarah Sutherland lodged an objection against Tidal Spirit (S McGovern) being declared the winner for alleged interference from the 100m to the winning post. After evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, Stewards dismissed the objection.
Shane McGovern rider of Tidal Spirit was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, the careless riding being that near the 100 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of Retta which resulted in that mare being tightened for room and having to be eased. Shane McGovern was suspended from riding in races for a term of suspension to commence midnight Saturday 8th November 2008 and to expire midnight Saturday, 22nd November 2008, (2 picnic meetings).
Passing the 900 metre mark, Chloe Blue Eyes got its head up when being restrained. Kane Harris rider of Chloe Blue Eyes which performed below expectation stated to the Stewards that the mare failed to respond to his riding after passing the 150m mark.
Approaching the winning post, Retta was unable to be ridden out to the end of the race because she was racing close to the heels of Tidal Spirit.
Race 4 – BRIAN JOHNSTON APPRECIATION MAIDEN HANDICAP - 1050 metres: The Jolly Swagman and Eloquent Miss were slow to begin.
Approaching the 800 metre mark, Eloquent Miss got its head up when being restrained.
In the straight, Spanish Ruler laid in under pressure and brushed the Jolly Swagman on two occasions near the 200 metres and 100 metres.
Race 5 – MOLLY HOULAHAN MEMORIAL TROPHY RACE (1) HANDICAP - 1200 metres: Waratah Pirate was slow to begin.
Near the 1000 metres Rocem Reba got its head up when being restrained.
Approaching the 900 metres Waratah Pirate had to be checked off the heels of Rocem Reba.
Race 6 – KINGS CREEK HOTEL OPEN TROPHY RACE HANDICAP - 1200 metres: Identity jumped away awkwardly.
Near the 100 metres Miss Lash had to change course to obtain clear running.
Approaching the winning post, Like Thunder laid in under pressure on two occasions before it was straightened.
