Race 1 – lisa dalgleish birthday open trophy race handicap - 1050 metres: Acting on a report from R Douglas, representing trainer Ms C Boyd, who advised Stewards that subsequent to scratching time Ms Boyd received unsatisfactory results of a blood count taken from Eleganz, and that the gelding was in her opinion unfit to run, Stewards ordered the withdrawal of Eleganz at 12.50 pm. C Boyd will a submit a veterinary certificate in respect of Eleganz.
On jumping away Intracool was tightened for room between Court’s Order and Nothin’ But A Star, both of which shifted ground.
Ms J Conron, rider of Nothin’ But A Star which performed below expectations, stated to the Stewards that the gelding was reluctant to take up a forward position and she then had to ease off heels near the 700 metres. Conron added the removal of the blinkers today and the drop back in distance compared to its most recent run may have contributed to the gelding getting further back than expected. Conron further added that she started to place Nothin’ But A Star under pressure from the 600 metres and the gelding commenced to make ground, however she could not ride Nothin’ But A Star out in her normal manner from the 200 metres due to the gelding laying in. A post race veterinary examination of Nothin’ But A Star revealed no abnormalities.
An inquiry was opened and adjourned into R Douglas, rider of the winner Court’s Order, placing his arm on the top of the scales when being officially weighed in. Evidence was taken from R Douglas and Mr G McDonnell, Club Official. An inquiry was also adjourned into the reason for R Douglas weighing in 1.5 kg above his allotted weight.
Race 2 – rosebud rsl restricted trophy race (1) handicap - 1200 metres: On arrival on course, Grandview Park was examined by the Club’s vet and passed fit to run.
Near the 400 metres, Ainsleigh’s Girl had to be eased to avoid the heels of Sheeza Mess (C Pace), which shifted in slightly when laying in. C Pace was notified that she must do her utmost to keep her mounts straight at all times.
Race 3 – borges olive oil open trophy race handicap - 1200 metres: A. Bodey, rider of Eureka Jet which performed below expectations, stated to the Stewards that he rode the gelding in the same manner as he had done when the gelding led and won at its previous two starts, however Eureka Jet failed to respond to his riding when put under pressure in the straight.
Race 4 – kings creek hotel balnarring cup - 2000 metres: Near the winning post on the first occasion, Baltic Storm was tightened for room and had to be eased to avoid the heels of Distraction which, after initially shifting in and away from Fair Bianca after being brushed by that mare, was then taken in further by Esceegee (S Wicks) which shifted in. S Wicks was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear and notified that he must ensure he is two lengths clear when shifting ground in future.
Race 5 – draffin walker maiden handicap - 1600 metres: The start of the race was delayed due to the bridle on Our Lady of Jugah being replaced. Stewards placed a warning on Argyle Park for its unruly behaviour behind the barrier. Trainer D Fergusson was notified that should the filly perform in a similar manner in future further action may be taken.
Eye Eye over-raced in the early and middle stages and laid out rounding the home turn. Rounding the home turn Catino Belle, which had been had been held up for a run, had to be eased off the heels of Our Lady Of Jugah which commenced to weaken.
Race 6 – efficiency technologies aust. trophy race (1) handicap - 1600 metres: Hurricane Sal was slow to begin and was then held up for clear running from rounding the home turn until straightening.
A Boyd, rider of Lukadat which was eased down in the straight, explained to the Stewards that the gelding travelled well in the early stages however compounded from the 900 metres at which stage it started to make an unusual respiratory noise. For this reason A Boyd did not ride Lukadat out in his normal manner. Trainer J Bennett confirmed that Lukadat had got its tongue over the bit and notified Stewards that he would be applying a tongue tie to the gelding at its next start.
