THREE DAYS OF BACK TO BACK PICNICS
"Big three" of picnic racing with the Merton/Pakenham, Dederang and Balnarring meetings on consecutive days. Despite such a large amount of racing the fields have held up quite well and if the weather remains good we should see some competitive racing. Great opportunity this year to go to Merton, stay overnight at a location between Merton and Dederang and then attend the Dederang Cup meeting.

Dederang is a once a year event that attracts large crowds and is a great day out. If you have not had enough picnic racing by then, head on back down the highway to Balnarring for the final leg. Plenty of kms to travel but it is a great weekend.

P.S. Sorry about the lack of reports for Drouin, Mansfield and Woolamai but just cannot keep up at the moment.

MAID OF THE MIST BREAKS RECORD

Maid of the Mist took out the 2009 Yea Cup convincingly and in doing so broke the track record. Ridden by Adam Bodey and trained by Danny Curran this 6yo mare by Diatribe ran home strongly after getting a long way back in the running.

The last race saw Diaddison provide young Jacob Londregan with the winner at $3-50. A credit to trainer Katrina McAdam this lightly raced 8yo gelding with only the 15 starts finally broke its maiden status.

The horse can be a little unruly on its way to the barriers but once there it sets its mind on the job and followed up with a good win today after a close second last start at Healesville.

If not for an unfortunate mechanical breakdown that prevented Jacob from getting to the track for the first he may have ridden a double. His mount in the first duly won but he was replaced by Craig Kirkpatrick who got Just Dora home in a photo from Delta Dane and Powerconi.
