Balnarring Report January 6th 2008
Once again the punters had the better of the bookies with four out of the six races going to well backed favourites. The first race went to the consistent Toro who put together a few seconds before breaking through with a win at Drouin on Boxing Day and following up with a good victory at $1.80 favourite at Balnarring.
Race two went to Rosebud Royal who came from the professionals after an unlucky run when blocked in the running to win well as the heavily backed $1.70 favourite.
Octagonal's Star won the third race making it three odds on favourites to win and provide Adam Bodey with a winning double.
Finally some relief for bookmakers in the fourth when Doraemon took out the race at the good odds of $10-00 in a small four horse field.
The refief for bookmakers was shortlived however when the Woolamai track specialist Leica Reason showed everyone he is more than a one track horse by winning the fifth as the short priced $2-00 favourite.
The final event was a close finish between Jacksparrow and the 10yo $21-00 chance Picolo Toro who was having his first run at the picnics. Jacksparrow got the nod in the photo giving Adam Bodey a treble and driving a final nail into the bookies bags. Although not favourite he was the more heavily backed contender in the final stages of betting.
